One of my most profound early life lessons comes from growing up on a farm in rural Mexico. Out in the cornfields, nothing was automated, every task, from sowing to harvesting, was done by hand. Without access to modern equipment, my six siblings and I worked alongside our single mother to complete the work each season.
From this experience, I learned that without dedicated effort, there was no food on the table. It instilled in me the values of humility, discipline, respect, teamwork, and the understanding that there are no shortcuts to enduring success.
These lessons shaped my leadership style. In my early years as a Vice President at Wells Fargo, leading branches across Texas, Nebraska, Kansas, and Iowa, I faced the challenge of unifying diverse teams under a shared vision. Through strategic coaching and transparent communication, As District Manager in Nebraska, I cultivated a culture of accountability and collaboration, resulting in a 20% increase in customer satisfaction (NPS) and significant improvements in team performance between 2018 and 2021.
When I relocated to the United States from Mexico at the age of 12, I was suddenly immersed in a new language, culture, and way of life. The transition was one of the most difficult experiences of my life, but it taught me a powerful lesson: adaptability. Navigating unfamiliar environments and expectations at a young age prepared me to lead through change with confidence and empathy.
Years later, while studying at the University of Texas at Austin, I leaned on the foundation of hard work and family values that shaped me. Driven by curiosity and determination, I taught myself a third language, Italian, which earned me a scholarship to study abroad in Rome, Italy. This time, I embraced the cultural shift with excitement and readiness, fully immersing myself in a new way of life.
These experiences helped me become highly adaptable to diverse social and cultural environments, a skill that continues to shape my leadership style today.
After graduating from The University of Texas at Austin, I began my career at Wells Fargo as a teller. Over the next 20 years, I advanced through a series of leadership roles — including Branch Manager, District Manager, Business Execution Consultant, and Behavior Influencer, leading teams across Texas, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, and part of Illinois. Each role challenged me to grow, lead diverse teams, and drive meaningful results. What an incredible journey! In 2019, I earned my second Master’s degree from Bellevue University in Nebraska, further deepening my knowledge in business and leadership.
So, what’s next? I’m currently learning my fourth language, French. For me, life is a beautiful journey.
